Silence as threat to Cork Airport’s future looms large

I listened with horror to the news of a possible sell-off of Aer Lingus LHR slots to IAG by Ryanair.

Silence as threat to Cork Airport’s future looms large

As a frequent business traveller on this route to Europe I’m full of disquiet at the prospect of eventually losing the LHR connection which would be catastrophic for the Cork area.

How would the EMCs, Apples and Novartises of this world view Cork as an ongoing centre of operations once devoid of its only viable international connection?

What equally concerns me, however, is the almost total silence re Cork Airport on the part of the Cork Chamber of Commerce, the business sector operating in Cork, as well as the Government.

Shannon is in the news as it moves to autonomous status, but what are the prospects for Cork Airport?

We no longer have a Dublin connection — is LHR next?

Are we sleep-walking ourselves toward disaster?
