Suspend councils

Further to Pierce O’Loughlin’s letter (Sept 7), suspending the Seanad till a referendum is held would be a good idea.

But why not suspend all councils and councillors till there is proper reform of local government? All the money saved from these two dinosaurs could be put into health and education.

The news of an FF councillor living abroad while his constituents thought he was representing them is another example of the abuse of power in politics, abuse of pay and perks and total disrespect for Irish citizens. Suspend all councillors and senators till the next elections and have a massive reform of an out-of-date system.
