Failings of the Government lie at the Taoiseach’s feet

Over the last 10 months we have seen many U-turns by the Government.

The Oireachtas inquiry referendum was a failure, not just of this government, but of all the political parties in Dáil Eireann.

The electorate chose to support the judges’ pay referendum but did not believe they could or should trust politicans with more power.

The first budget of the new government did not display any real vision for the future of our country.

Instead it disproportionately affected bigger families and lone parents. Vested interests again protected.

The decision of Environment Minister Phil Hogan to shelve the independent inquiry into planning irregularities is simply disgraceful.

Having boorishly made promises that the Irish taxpayer would no longer fork out excessive sums of money to special advisers and to broken banks, this government chose to break these “caps” without any explanation and has continued with the policies of the previous government.

When Taoiseach Enda Kenny addressed the nation he told us that it wasn’t our fault, even though we would be paying the price for the mistakes made.

He now tells the rest of the world that “we” partied. In doing so he insulted the majority of people in this country and led the world to believe the stereotype of “the Irish”.

He gave a very superficial and ignorant answer to a complex question that would lead one to question his own understanding of the current situation.

He is the Taoiseach and leader of this country.

The papers over the last few days point out that Denis O’Brien has defended the Taoiseach’s remarks. Denis O’Brien has close associations with FG.

The failings of this government lie at the Taoiseach’s feet. It is invidious to be leader of a country which faces financial ruin.

This does not mean that this country should tolerate any Taoiseach that does not appear able for the job.
