We can’t wait any longer

THE recent edition of Time Magazine featured the protestor as its Person of the Year.

We can’t wait any longer

Sadly no Irish face featured in this front page edition. The Irish people seem to have adopted a wait-and-see position in reaction to the current crises. We can of course wait until we see how bad it really is going to be. We can wait until years of austerity have broken the spirit of another generation, when decent health care and education are the sole preserve of the wealthy. We can wait until universities become the preserve of the rich where people mortgage themselves in the hope of employment. This waiting is no longer an option for the people of the next generation. The questions are no longer who will be able to afford a mortgage or get a decent job or pay for healthcare when we are sick. The only question remaining is will we let it happen? Will people choose to protest or resist? Those who choose one of these paths will surely not find themselves alone.
