Irish Nationwide - Don’t bury the report

Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin has called for the publication of a report on how Irish Nationwide Building Society ended up needing nearly €5.5bn in recapitalisation.

The Government is behaving as if the people have no right to know why they are being asked to pay for this.

The report was completed 18 months ago. But the Department of Finance has no plans to publish it. Mr Martin has called for the report to be made accessible to members of the Dáil and the relevant Dáil Committee. He is calling for the Government to implement the promises it made in relation to freedom of information. The whole thing is relative to what he candidly termed, “the appalling lack of regulation”.
