THOUGH delegates at last week’s climate conference in Durban needed little convincing that we must change our ways if we are not to jeopardise humanity’s future, very many people remain unconvinced of the urgent need to change our unsustainable habits.

Early yesterday afternoon we got a demonstration of the raw power of nature when the highest wave ever seen in Irish waters was recorded off Donegal.

The M4 weather buoy, 16km offshore logged a wave of 20.4 metres or 67 feet. This was of Japanese tsunami proportions. Try for a moment to imagine the destruction it would cause if it reached our shores.
