Return of the punt?

THE reassurances of the Irish Central Bank and the Government to the effect that no plans are afoot to print a national currency once again put me in mind of our previous government’s hollow reassurances a year ago claiming that no bailout was in the offing for Ireland when, in reality, the plane carrying the folks from the IMF was just about to touch down.

So, it shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise for anybody should 2012 witness the return of our late lamented punt.
