Shamrock Rovers are set to raid their rivals Bohemians again to recruit goalkeeper Kacper Chorążka.
The Polish stopper lost his first-choice status at Dalymount Park in the summer after his wedding clashed with their visit to Derry City.
He was replaced by Paul Walters and the American retained his spot for the remainder of the season which concludes on Friday at St Patrick’s Athletic, a battle to claim the runners-up spot.
Bohs became the closest challengers to Rovers’ crown in the run-in until defeat at home to Shelbourne last Friday enabled Stephen Bradley’s side to secure their sixth title in seven years by beating Sligo Rovers.
Rovers have been in the market to source a back-up custodian to Ed McGinty since losing teenager Alex Noonan to Ipswich Town recently for a fee of €450,000.
They also have Lee Steacy on their books but if the deal for free agent Chorążka is, as expected, finalised in the coming weeks, he’ll be designated as McGinty’s understudy.
The Rovers squad already has a spine of ex-Gypsies, from captain Pico Lopes to midfielders Dylan Watts, Danny Grant and Danny Mandroiu along with striker Jonathan Afolabi.
