Government choosing EU over its people

THE policies adopted by the Government because of their dependence on the IMF, EU and ECB are becoming too pro-cyclical, hindering the growth and therefore the future economic prosperity of the country.

Government choosing EU over its people

The austerity imposed by the Government will ultimately be harmful, as it discourages entrepreneurship because of the lack of disposable income.

It discourages striving for higher income jobs because of huge taxes at upper income levels, in a mixed economy (which is what our economy must be seen as because of the faults of the public sector).

This hindrance to growth will lead to less taxable income in the future, so long term will actually decrease returns for the troika and income for the state.

The austerity imposed by the Irish state is not only unacceptable, it is unwarranted and unnecessary.

The Government is at fault because they ignore their opportunity to change the situation.

Ireland has a sufficient export market to survive, only because of its exceptionally talented and hardworking workforce.

This gives us bargaining power to demand further interest rate cuts, as it is possible for us to survive without the euro.

Greece has abused the system of the EU more than Ireland and yet they are being released from their responsibilities. Ireland has honoured its debts to date and not received any recognition of any benefit.

All economic complexities really come down to very simple analysis — this government has made a promise to both the EU and its people and it must decide whether to honour the interests of its people, who elected its members, or a foreign power, for the benefit of the larger countries in the EU.

At the moment it seems to have chosen the latter.
