Energy should come from own resources

PAUL MILLS is the latest observer to note the giveaway of our oil and gas resources, as reported in the Irish Examiner (August 18).

David McWilliams believes we need to follow Norway’s example to ensure the economy benefits from the estimated €500bn reserves which lie off Ireland’s west coast.

Our ability to attract FDI will be compromised by our high reliance on imported oil.

Corporations will be discouraged by our exposure to energy price spikes and to supply interruptions. Even if GNP and GOP increase, the economy will still shrink because of rising gas and oil prices.

In the future the most prosperous countries will be those whose energy will come from their own resources, instead of imported oil.
