IT is an indictment of the HSE that the director of the National Office for Suicide Prevention has threatened to resign because he does not have enough staff to do the work of his office properly.

No doubt the HSE will respond saying that in a time of shrinking resources and budget over-runs situations like these are sadly inevitable.

NOSP’s director, Geoff Day, suggests the situation has arisen not because resources are scare, but because of a failure to redeploy staff. If this is the case then the HSE does have a case to answer.
