Fudging the facts

MICHEÁL Ó Fearghail’s suggestion (Letters, July 18) that the plan to introduce legislation to counter duplicity on the part of the clergy is politicians being “opportunistic” has more than a ring of truth to it when viewed in the context of how truthful and honest are those same politicians.

Fudging the facts

Members of the clergy sought to excuse dishonesty using the “mental reservation” get out, but that hardly beats the Taoiseach’s flair in the fudge department.

In similar clerical style he told the Dáil recently that his pre-election promises and commitments were merely a case of him “annunciating party policy as it was then”. Stones and glasshouses come to mind.
