Failure of the Church

THE proportionality of media response to the Cloyne report does not merely reflect the number of clerical abusers alone.

It reflects the enormity of the issues behind all aspects of the issues raised by this most recent expose of crime and subsequent complicity of “superiors”, from parish to the Vatican.

The church’s conscious, conscienceless, and abject failure to properly address matters is wilful and denies basic human rights yet again.

The elderly nun referred to in your editorial (July 15), has a right to be disappointed, but this is an opportunity to absorb and consider the fact that it is the church itself, including the Pope, which has caused and therefore inflicted this opportunity for disappointment — the same church which does not allow her to become a priest should she so wish.
