Nothing wrong with our English friends
Is it a dirty word one couldn’t enter in a dictionary or use at a drawing-room conversation?
Many, or should one say, some, journalists to be precise, berate the said word.
Sometimes it may be well to have a good look back over your shoulder and avoid getting a knife in the back.
History does repeat itself.
That said there is nothing wrong with the British Queen visiting our little cabbage patch.
She is a very good-living person and in our time has no problem being a Christian and saying so.
What she stands for doesn’t seem quite right; all people are equal, but in her case she is more equal than others.
Colonialism and Imperialism are words unacceptable to many Irish minds in today’s world and Europe, in particular, where democratic republicanism is the norm.
Yes, there is a big element of marketing ourselves as a tourist destination.
The British are certainly our neighbours and very good ones at that.
Many English citizens live here and are tremendous people to have and to know, sharing their expertise and good workmanship, plus nice friendships, in our community, especially down here in West Cork.
