No stamp of approval for ailing An Post

WHAT’S up with An Post these days?

Are they on some kind of hush-hush unofficial “go-slow” or am I the only one that has noticed how poor the service has become?

There was a time I considered An Post to be one of the best postal systems in the world, but these days I am almost afraid to pop a parcel in the letterbox in case it never arrives at its destination.

More than one letter originating locally addressed to me (from within the Cork region) never arrived at my address and packages from the UK either take several weeks longer than they used to, or simply never arrive at all.

I am tempted to send everything by registered mail these days, though in at least one case that’s also a futile exercise.

Having paid over €7 to send a registered letter to Italy I discovered I could not track it to confirm that it had arrived safely.

On enquiring, I was informed that it had been delivered but the Italian postal system has no “partnering agreement” to allow An Post customers see if their registered mail had arrived.

It’s a shame to see such a fine institution as An Post fall to the same slipshod standards as some of its European counterparts.
