Politicians putting their own needs first

I LISTENED with some degree of cynicism to Micheál Martin pay tribute to Noel O’Flynn for putting the needs of the people and the party first by deciding to not run in the next election.

Mr O’Flynn will enjoy the comfort of a large pension courtesy of taxpayers and no doubt will be rewarded with a seat in the Senate, a refuge for many failed politicians. His timing is also fortuitous in that he can be one of the many appointees to the useless quangos, which are currently being stuffed with Fianna Fáil supporters before they leave office. Such typical behaviour just re-iterates to the public that nothing ever changes and the party looks after its cronies even when the country is on brink of financial obliteration.
