Protecting children - Vigilance is required

A REPORT from the European Commission yesterday gave the reassuring news that 84% of the software programs tested enabled parents to block their children’s access to certain websites.

However, they also pointed to the difficulties involved in ensuring that children are not compromised by the inadvisable use of social websites. The EC also warned about the use of phones and hand-held devices to access the internet. It is easy to become overwrought about these things as most children have an acute sense of their own well-being. However, it would be foolish to pretend that this is an area that does not need constant attention to protect vulnerable children.
