MINISTER Pat Carey is entitled to complain and say that he was ‘taken aback’ by RTÉ’s ‘silence’ over cocaine use (Editorial, December 21).

Taken aback, indeed

It is, however, a bit rich for a government minister to say that “RTÉ sold itself short” because of the “need to protect the sensitivities” of the family of a deceased member of RTÉ staff.

Neither he nor any of his government colleagues complained to RTÉ over the past decade when the “need to protect the sensitivities” of government ministers prevented it from being more outspoken about the decisions of government which have bankrupt the country.
