The Irish Blood Transfusion Service relies on voluntary non-paid donors to provide sufficient blood and blood components to patients in hospitals. When supplies were low and with the cancellation of a number of clinics the public once again showed they care and braved the bad weather to ensure that our supply to hospitals was uninterrupted.
When the going got tough the tough got going and so it was with the personnel from the Defence Forces.
They transported staff to clinics and home again, they came to donate at various locations around the country and injected a sense of urgency through their actions that appealed to the wider public.
I would like to take the opportunity to wish all our donors and their families a very Happy Christmas and every good wish for the New Year.
