The Irish Open - Admirable ambition

THE organisers of the Irish Open, and the world-class Irish players who support them, are to be congratulated on their pluck and vision.

They announced that, despite the absence of a main sponsor and possibly reduced prize money, the event would go ahead in July at Killarney.

This is a recognition of the successes of Irish players and the reception the event got when held in Killarney.

It is profoundly symbolic too. Despite changed circumstances it was recognised that the event is very important to Ireland and that it must go ahead.

One of the reasons these people are so successful is their determination in the face of adversity. An idea — and an event — we should all support.
