Mud trapped by dam cannot be released
I remember when the dam was built some 55 years ago and the valley was flooded. Where has all the mud and debris gone — all the hundreds of thousands of tonnes of sludge, slurry and fertiliser. It’s all trapped behind the dam and cannot be released. Now when we get very heavy rain the water has no where to go only over the top. When there are south-east gales, high tides and rainstorm, the city floods. The pipes cannot take the water.
We need a bar across the river at Monkstown or Passage that would stop the high tides coming in and the storm water coming down could be accommodated in the lower harbour.
