Millions wasted on ‘show cause’ Dáil questions

INCREDIBLY, civil servants prepared 54,000 answers for ministers to reply to Dáil questions in 2009. It is a major industry.

The average cost of each query was €125. The total cost for the year came to €6.75 million. If our political heroes are serious, let them snip this wasteful luxury.

Dáil questions are only the tip of the iceberg. Too many politicians churn out reams of ‘representations’ to government offices on behalf of constituents.
