Safer driving - Impound their cars

OUR summer has been punctuated by road tragedies that suggest there is a core of young people who disregard all safety advice even if it is accompanied by the starkest evidence.

Tomorrow Transport Minister Noel Dempsey will publish measures designed to make our roads safer.

One worth considering would be the immediate seizure of the vehicle used by a provisional licence holder to break a speed limit. This kind of sanction would hit the offender in the pocket and possibly even cost them their job. It might work where so many others have failed.
