Fine Gael at war - FF happy to let FG take limelight

TODAY the focus of Irish politicians should have been firmly fixed on Taoiseach Brian Cowen and his response to Fine Gael’s motion of no confidence in him.

The Dáil motion should have been the only game in town but Fine Gael, resurrecting their terminal habit of throwing lifelines to Fianna Fáil when they are drowning in a quagmire of their own making, have conjured an alternative attraction.

They seem to be preparing to tear themselves apart, as they have done so many times before, just as the coals on the barbecue they have been so long stoking for Mr Cowen are ready to start cooking.
