Airlines hit by ‘ludicrous’ claims

THE idea of Ryanair and other airlines having to compensate passengers for being stuck abroad due to the unforseeable volcanic problem is ludicrous.

This bizarre circumstance never entered the minds of those who drafted the EU regulation, assuming they had minds at all, in the first place.

Were it to be implemented to the letter of the law, we would have no airlines left. Ryanair down the years has lacked charm and so on, but the bottom line is that, thanks to it, we are all flying at a fraction of what it used to cost.

Long may it continue.
