School show a lesson for lifeless politicians

IN recent months I have been dismayed as our country seems to be going down the tubes. Politicians with no light in their eyes or fire in their bellies just seem to mumble prepared statements on various issues.

One night recently, however, my hopes and spirits were raised by the production of Fame in our local community school in Carrigaline, Co Cork. The sheer talent, energy and enthusiasm shown by a group of local youngsters and their teachers revealed to me how much we’ve got as a country.

Teachers, pupils and school support staff gave up their free time, including many weekends, for after-school practice to produce this show.
