I HAVE always liked George Lee. During his time as RTÉ economics reporter he presented economic issues in a fashion that those of us with very basic formal education and knowledge of economics could understand.

Now we know Lee was not happy in his political life. He felt he had “no influence or input” and that he felt “shut out” from the inner decision-making circle of power within Fine Gael. Lee was bored, unused.

Lee would know better that anyone that our natural resources are the economic engines of trade. They provide valuable livelihoods that generate economic activity in the form of fresh water, food, fuel, recreation, energy resources, and tourism. However, these essential natural assets and resources are grossly undervalued.
