As my Cork-bound Airbus cruised high over the Alps I couldn’t help but mull over the year that was – Ireland ‘09. The Ryan and Murphy reports, redundancies, a corrupt banking system, an inept government and widespread mismanagement of our country’s resources. A journey tinged with anger and sadness.

Injustice, cover-ups and a lack of accountability permeate almost every facet of our establishment. Contemporary post-Tiger Ireland is deeply contaminated and indifference is endemic. The recent flooding of Cork city weighs heavily, too.
