Time up for unluckiest Taoiseach in our history

THE Taoiseach’s demeanour on the steps of Government Buildings a fortnight ago as he announced yet another late initiative – this time in response to the weather crisis – had all the hallmarks of a man whose body language is screaming, “someone, please put me out of my misery”.

Our political system works at its best when cobbling together excuses.

The system is flawless with regard to historical political and financial wrongdoing, but is seen for what it is when the normal hiding places are cast aside either by overwhelming financial corruption or, in the latest case, the weather.
