Abuse of sexuality must be tackled

IF there is to be a genuine root-and-branch examination and clean-up done with regard to the entire area of child sex abuse, shouldn’t the 97% of perpetrators who are not clergy also be scrutinised?

Abuse of sexuality must be tackled

Approximately 3% of the abuse was clerical abuse – a staggering 97% occurs with family, neighbours, strangers. Only a comprehensive approach to this scandal is good enough.

Included in this review must be the proliferation, especially in the past three to five years, of the most scandalous pornography available in virtually every small shop in the country.

It strikes me that very few in any community have the moral authority to cast stones in the current environment. Until sexuality is accorded its rightful dignity and expression within the context of marriage between man and woman, and not misused and abused as it currently is in every form, from subtle innuendo in advertising to outright physical abuse, no genuine progress will have been either attempted or achieved.
