Teacher disheartened by constant criticism

AS a teacher I am very disheartened by the constant criticism of the public sector. The majority of us work hard, don’t earn large salaries and are professional and dedicated in carrying out our jobs. We have had on average a 10% reduction in take-home pay already this year and cannot afford further cuts.

The return to long-term growth in the economy is very much dependent on having a well educated, skilled workforce.

This means having an excellent education system at all levels from primary through secondary and on to further education and third level.

This education system will only continue to function at the highest level if we have the best qualified, experienced and commited staff in place.

Public anger should be directed at the people who got us into this mess, not ordinary workers. The Government, developers and bankers need to accept the blame and not look for scapegoats elsewhere.
