Poll obligation - A barrier to reform

FINE GAEL yesterday moved a Bill to change the Constitution to allow for a cut in judges’ pay. If this is to be enacted it will have to be passed by a referendum.

Poll obligation - A barrier to reform

It is preposterous that every time we need to change our Constitution that we need to hold a referendum. Surely it is not beyond our wit to devise a scheme whereby matters of housekeeping, like judges’ pay, can be dealt with without recourse to the ballot box?

This obligation is outdated and an obstruction to reform. It should be reconsidered.
