While this four-bed home is eye-catching with its crisp neatness inside and out, if you want to be really impressed then have a look at the older versions of Google Streetview. Seeing what it’s been developed from really helps you appreciate this four-bed Daffodil House at Ahidelake, Middle Ring, just outside Clonakilty.

From a pretty typical 1970s bungalow which had been let fall into disrepair to an A2-rated sleek yet warm home — all the hard work has been done here.

Liam Harnedy of Bantry-based Liam Harnedy Construction took on the task, in late 2024 (for €191k according to the Property Price Register).

Since then, the house, which is a five-minute walk from the coastal village of Ring and a 10-minute spin to Clonakilty town, has been extended and totally renovated to 1250 sq ft. New flooring, underfloor heating, new kitchen, insulation and a switch from oil heating to air-to-water heating are among the upgrades.

There are new windows and doors throughout too and the energy rating is commendable.

Outside too has been totally refreshened with overgrowth cleared — though mature trees and an attractive old drystone wall have been maintained.

“This has been a super job, there was a small driveway but you have more than enough space for parking now and the house itself is lovely altogether with external insulation at the front and a modern extension,” notes Keith O’Sullivan of Hodnett Forde Property Services.

The L-shaped layout means that the patio doors look south and the back of the €495k house gets the morning light, with evening light in the three bedrooms at the front of the house. There’s also one bedroom at the back of the property. Three rooflights bring great light into the large kitchen/dining room.

Interest so far is coming from quite a variety of sectors says Mr O’Sullivan: “We have young couples who are currently selling or thinking of selling their homes in the town as they want to move a bit further out and have more space while still being close to Clonakilty.”

“As well as locals we also have interest from people living in Britain as well as Offaly, Wicklow, Dublin and Cork city, many with connections to the West Cork area — and they’re all drawn to the fact that it’s a turnkey property. All the viewers so far are looking at this as a permanent home.”

VERDICT: High-spec, turnkey coastal living where all the hard work is already done.
