Media line on the public sector is disgraceful

THE media’s role in softening up the public sector and those on welfare has been a disgrace. The Comptroller and Auditor General, and the Central Statistics Office are duty-bound to follow political dictates, but the media are joining the fray with one-eyed abandon.

Media line on the public sector is disgraceful

The public sector needs reforming; anyone who works within it knows that

However, slashing wages just takes disposable spending from small business, accelerating deflation and leaves the dysfunctional power structure intact and, in fact, strengthened, as a shrinking force merely takes on a “bunker” persona. The public sector fiefdom has to be broken up and this reality should not be avoided because the task involves some hard work. The media avoidance of the issue of the vast personal wealth controlled by a very small number of Irish billionaires is as significant a shame as the failure to expose a previous generation of belt-tightening hypocrites.

Can the media please shine its torch on the dark places without fear or favour and give us something to be proud of?
