Ryanair-style public service ... why not?

WE were concerned at the throwaway comment at the end of your editorial on Aer Lingus (August 28) in which you claim “we may not want a Ryanair public service or semi-state sector, but yesterday proves that we can’t afford an Aer Lingus one either”.

Ryanair-style public service ... why not?

When Ryanair delivers a world-beating service at the lowest prices for consumers, with the best efficiency and among the highest average pay, what exactly would be wrong with a “Ryanair public service”?

The inefficient, incompetent and overpaid public sector in this country would (if it was run along Ryanair lines) be far more efficient, more productive and would deliver exactly what taxpayers/consumers really want, instead of PPARS, evoting machines and benchmarking, which is what our taxpayers don’t want.
