Robbed in the rush ... a bad trip to Athens
I recently spent a week in the city and was robbed on the train travelling from the port of Pireaus to the capital.
It was so professionally carried out that neither my husband nor I realised we had been robbed until we disembarked at the station.
There was a rush to get onto the train and we realised afterwards that the robbery was carried out in the confusion. The robbers attempted to use my credit card within five minutes of obtaining it so one cannot emphasise enough the need to be on guard.
My advice is to take only enough money for the day with you and keep the rest of your cash locked in a safe.
We also had to endure a four-day delay in the return of our suitcase as the aircraft in Athens was overloaded.
I defy anyone to get in contact with an actual person in Aer Lingus to check on status of luggage — all you get is a recorded message.
My advice is to travel only with hand luggage — you won’t need half of it anyway.
