Treaty guarantees are beyond question

IN his letter headlined ‘Yes campaign has credibility problem’ (July 20), Jack Lane’s attack on the status of the legal guarantees was based on skewed logic.

Treaty guarantees are beyond question

By suggesting they don’t hold water because those who secured them are the same people who decided to hold a second Lisbon Treaty referendum is disingenuous.

The two issues are completely separate and should be dealt with as such. Firstly, the validity of the legal guarantees is beyond question. They will become legally binding the day the treaty enters into force. They will then be included in a protocol to be attached to the EU treaties at the time of the next accession treaty.
