Yes campaign has a credibility problem

IN his letter (July 11), Liam Aylward MEP assures us that at the last meeting of EU leaders in June, legal certainties were put in place which should allay all concerns about the Lisbon Treaty (Letters, July 11).

But what credibility can be placed on “legal certainties” proclaimed by the very same leaders who see no need to abide by the result of a referendum? Why is respect for the people’s decision in a referendum excluded from the much vaunted “legal certainties”?

I cannot imagine a more important certainty to have in a democratic society.
