Traffic blues – let’s get real about road safety

IS it any wonder our roads are so unsafe. Watching Traffic Blues (RTÉ 1, June 14) would make any driving instructor wonder why he or she had to give the RSA €800 to qualify as an approved driving instructor (ADI) when the gardaí are not prosecuting provisional licence-holders for driving unaccompanied and, in some cases, without L-plates.

In the programme, a woman was stopped at a checkpoint and found to have only a learner permit but no qualified driver with her and five children in the back seat, without any seatbelts, and she was only charged with this offence. In the first programme, aired three weeks ago, a young driver was just told to take the car home after being stopped and found that
