Amusing portrait of a banana republic

I READ with amusement about the two “portraits” of Brian Cowen.

Following intervention by the government press secretary, RTÉ was forced to make an apology for showing them. Gardaí are looking at three potential offences of indecency, incitement to hatred and criminal damage (for hammering a nail into a gallery wall?).

Oh my God, this while Ireland is facing so many problems. All of which lends credence to the Financial Times’s reference some time ago to Ireland as a “banana republic”.
