Cowen should end scandal of ‘just because’ pay hikes in public service

WHAT is really grotesque about TDs getting a pay rise is not the hike as such but the fact there are still civil servants with whom the pay scale of TDs is linked who get a pay rise “just because”.

Surely there’s at least one honest, decent person who supports Fianna Fáil, not to mention perhaps an actual cabinet member, with enough integrity left to challenge the attitude where payments are given on a “just because” basis all across the civil service.

Someone must be able to calculate how much these payments cost and put it to the civil service unions to justify why it shouldn’t be removed.
