WE are in economic freefall. Those we counted on to open the parachute don’t seem to know where the toggle is — if there is a toggle. If there is a parachute, come to think of it.

The best we might expect from our leaders in these unprecedented circumstances is that they suspend recrimination and point-scoring, at least until we negotiate the softest landing possible, and work together on behalf of the people who elected them to secure the future of our country.

Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael must collaborate in the national interest. They have an electoral mandate between them that is beyond question. They share a fundamental ideology.
