IN the light of your coverage (December 4) of the escalating prevalence of sexually transmitted infections in Ireland, is it not now self-evident that the ubiquitous condom is not “safe”?

If we wish to perpetuate the myth that it is, then why also the recent clamour for the introduction of a vaccine against the deadly human papilloma virus?

And can anyone explain why the Irish Blood Transfusion Service refuses to take blood from donors even if they have had “protected sex” with an infected partner? Besides, what emotional or spiritual “protection” does a prophylactic have to offer? It’s a no-brainer — “safe sex” as contemporaneously understood is balderdash.
