Smokers know how to point the way
When abroad, if I ask a passerby for directions or assistance he or she will almost invariably not be from the locality (or even the country) and will be unable to assist.
However, smokers can be found outside many offices and shops at regular intervals. They will undoubtedly work in the area and so your chances of obtaining the required information are greatly increased.
For my part, I am a smoker who regularly satisfies my habit at the same spot not far from Cork city centre.
On eight out of every ten occasions I step out for a cigarette I am asked for directions or assistance. In the circumstances, is it unreasonable to ask that the city council, and all city or town councils, would accommodate us with sufficient bins or the odd extended roof shelter for the rainy months ahead?
