Children must be taught how to think straight

THE annual puzzlement begins again. Why do our children under-perform in maths and science?

History Quest 1, a book for children aged six to seven in first class, tells the story of a St Brigid whose cloak grows in size as a result of some form of divine intervention.

The same book also tells of a group of monks setting up camp and cooking fish on the back of a whale.

This is but one example of the nonsense being put to our children in the guise of history. How can you expect children to grow up with scientific minds when scientific impossibilities are put forward as historical fact?

We need to stop telling our children what to think and instead teach them how to think.

This will only be achieved when the State breaks its chains of captivity from the Catholic Church, particularly with regard to education.
