Political cowards

IT was ironic to see the EU establishment, including Taoiseach Brian Cowen and Foreign Minister Micheál Martin, condemning Robert Mugabe for failing to respect democracy in Zimbabwe.

What a contrast to their reaction to the (only) free and fair vote on the Lisbon Treaty here in Ireland.

At home, the three major parties tried to frighten us into voting the Government line. When they go to the EU, they are reduced to cowardly deniers of their own people’s democratic choice.
