What’s it all about? Read the booklet

IAN HARTLEY (Letters, April 29) asks “what’s it all about?” and then goes on to assert that people do not understand what they are voting on. This demonstrates clearly that a referendum is a dubious method of deciding a complex issue.

What’s it all about? Read the booklet

Like most other people, I don’t intend to plough through the text of the treaty any more than I should be expected to read, for example, the entire Road Traffic Act or any other piece of legislation. I leave that to the experts — the parliamentarians we elect to do this kind of work. However, I have read Rules of the Road and try to conform to the traffic laws summarised in it.

Mr Hartley refers to feeble attempts to explain the treaty. Might I ask, what is feeble about the 24-page document being sent to every household?
