Killer road needs a change of direction

THERE has been general condemnation of gangland killings throughout the country — and rightly so — but why is a killer as heinous as any crime lord or serial murderer ignored.

Killer road needs a change of direction

Having taken the lives of no fewer than 18 innocent people, this monster is as unforgiving as ever. The killer I refer to is the N22 between Macroom and Ballyvourney in Co Cork.

Despite the countless promises of successive governments, this busy thoroughfare between Cork and Kerry remains a relic of an Ireland that should have long since disappeared. While it remains in its current manifestation, it continues to pose a significant threat to innocent people.

There have been many arguments made against the proposed bypass of Ballyvourney, most based on economic grounds.

However, not one can stand against the names of the nine people who have lost there lives in the village alone in recent decades.

The Government must pass judgment and sentence the N22 for the crimes it has committed. Otherwise it is just an accomplice in the carnage.
