Children’s rights: Let’s take time to get it right

WHILE the Children’s Rights Alliance has previously voiced its disappointment that a referendum on children’s rights has been repeatedly put on the long finger, we believe the Government’s reported decision now to delay the referendum until next year is the right one at this point of the process.

This issue is too important simply to cobble together a wording without affording it the proper attention it deserves. With more time at its disposal, the Joint Committee on the Constitutional Amendment on Children must now remain focused and deliver the long-awaited wording that will safeguard the rights of children living in Ireland — sooner rather than later.
