VODKA drinkers should know exactly what their tipple is made from in future following agreement at EU level on a new spirit drinks regulation.

Up to now there was no way of knowing what grain, vegetable or fruit was distilled to produce the colourless liquid.

But the only spirit entitled to be called just “vodka” will be made from either cereals or potatoes. All other vodkas will bear the indication “produced from” on its label, and list the raw material used in production.
